Notes |
- King of England, 1016. On the death of his father in April 1016, he assumed responsibility for repelling the forces of Cnut. After some successes, he was defeated in the Autumn at Ashington in Essex. Cnut left Edmund in control of Wessex, but when Edmund died in November, Cnut became king throughout England.
