  • Notes
    • Bringham, Theda Page. Descendants of John Page (1614-1687). Newberry oCS 71.P13 1972:

Birthdate as shown here, left England in the early years of the 17th century. One source says he arrived in the colony about 1630-35. It is possible though not known, that he might have come in the same company as the Marsh family; led by their pastor, Rev. Peter Hobart, this group arrived in June 1635 and settled at Hingham, Mass. The church in Hingham over which Peter Hobart presided is known as the "Old Ship Church", now an ancient edifice, and deservedly famous for its unique construction, the interior beams resembling ship construction. John Page married a Marsh daughter and we know that John Page had settled in Hingham, Mass. before 1641, from records of births of his children there. Hingham is located on the Atlantic seacoast not far north from the site of the "Plimoth Plantation" founded by the Pilgrim Company in 1620. Probably John Page came in one of the many ships that brought the Puritan companies a decade later. His name was among the Hingham signers of a petition to the General Court of Massachusetts in 1645 (Pope's book, Pioneers of Massachusetts, gives this date as 4 Nov. 1646). John Page lived at Hingham until about 1652 when he removed to Haverhil1, Mass., north of Boston and near the border of what later became the Province of New Hampshire. (Savage says John Page was at Haverhill in 1646 but the baptismal records of Hingham show his 7th child having been born there in 1651. Savage records correct
date of John Page's death, in agreement with the V.R. of Essex County, and notes that Barry said John's widow died in Nov. 1697. More recent search has corrected that date to February 1697. (John Page took the oath of freemen and allegiance at Haverhill May 9, 1669. Probably he was the John Page, Senior, listed among voters in 1683 concerning the site of a new meeting house at Haverhill, as noted in Chase's History of Haverhill, Mass.
John Page married Mary Marsh, daughter of George and Elizabeth Marsh of Hingham. George Marsh was a native of Ipswich, England and his daughter Mary was born in England. The date of marriage has not been found but probably it was 1640, perhaps earlier. John and Mary (Marsh) Page had eleven children, seven of them born at Hingham.

John Page died at Haverhill, Mass. November 23, 1687, aged 73 years per Essex County Quarterly Court Records. His widow died February 15, 1696/7. The estate was administered by his grandson Thomas (3) Page on March 12, 1721/2. The estate was divided November 1723. In this latter year most, if not all, the children of John Page were dead. He had been dead 36 years when his estate was finally settled.

      History of Hingham, MA, 3 vols (in 4 books), 1893, Newberry F844365.4, Vol 3, book 4, p. 105:
Page: This surname has been perpetuated here in localities known as "Page's Bridge" and "Page's Meadows;" but I have not ascertained definitely what the chrs. name of the fa. of the ch. of this surname b. here was. There are good reasons, however, for believing it was John, who was afts. of Haverhill. The mother, undoubtedly, was Mary, dau. of George Marsh, one of the early settlers of Hing. She was b. in England. Their ch. bt. in Hingham, were--
      i. John, July 11, 1641, prob. settled in Haverhill.
ii. Onesephorous, Nov. 20, 1642, settled in Salisbury.
iii. Benjamin, July 14, 1644, settled at Haverhill.
      iv. Mary, May 3, 1646.
      v. Joseph, March 5, 1647-8, afts. of Haverhill.
vi. Cornelius, July 15, 1649, settled at Haverhill.
      vii. Sarah, July 18, 1651.
