History of Crawford and Richland Counties, 1882, p. 1182:

"William Schurman resides on section 36, and his real estate comprises 400 acres, with as good improvements as can be found in the county. He is engaged in dairying and keeps about 60 cows. He manufactures cremery butter and Sap Sago. Mr. Schurman is a native of Germany, born in Duisburg on the river Rhime. In 1849 he married Caroline Weegmann, soon after emigrating to the United States and became one of the pioneers of Richland county. He first resided on Ash Creek, but his brother had entered a part of Section 36, town of Richland, sometime previous. Mr Schurman also owns the only one-half share of Sextonville Mills. It can truly be said that his life has been a success. Mr. and Mrs. Schurman have reared six children, five of whom are now living. Their eldest son Henry, was killed in the Sextonville mill when about tewenty-five years old. The family are members of the Evangelical Association. Two daughters have married clergymen, and one son is preaching the gospel."

      Obituary in back of bible:
SCHUERMANN. -- Peter William Schuerman was born at Duesburg [sic], Prussia, Nov. 23, 1835 [sic] and died in the triumph of living faith, Aug. 13, 1902, aged 76y., 8m. and 20 d. In 1849 he entered the matrimonial state with Carolina Wegmann. In the same year they emigrated to America, locating at Ash Creek, Richland Co Wis., there making their home for about six years. Then they moved to Richland Township, Richland Co., where they lived for 39 years. From 1887 up to the present the years were spent at the mill near Sextonville. Their home was blessed with 2 daughters, both of whom are wives of Evangelical preachers, and 4 sons, two of whom, Herman and William, are proclaiming the Gospel message in the Evangelical Association. He was preceded by his son Henry in 1876. His aged wife, Mother S., 5 children, many grandchildren, relatives and friends remain. In 1855, at an Evangellical camp-meeting near Sauk, Wis., under the labors of Rev. C. Schnake, he was soundly converted, and ever since was loyal and faithful to her, and true to his Lord and Master. The immediate cause of death was heart failure. In the solemn silence of the morning the messenger of death drew nigh, and took him unto the heavenly home. Blessed is his memory. At the funeral services, Rev. Wittenwyler preached in German, and the undersigned spoke in English. Also Rev. S. J. Erffmeyer and Rev. Presno, of the M. E. church, took part. H. A. Franzke
