  • Notes
    • The identity of this woman appears to be in some dispute. The Close Rolls, 12 Dec. 1333: "Cristiana, late wife of Richard de Emeldon, tenant-in-chief, put in her place John de Moubray, her brother, and Henry de Haydok, clerk, to seek and receive in chancery, her reasonable dower from the lands which her husband held." There is, however, argument as to which John Mowbray she is the sister of.

For Douglas Hickling's argument for her father as the John de Mowbray shown here, see:
      http://www.medievalgenealogy.org.uk/sources/mowbray/index.shtml
Hickling, however, does not conclude that Aline de Braose is necessarily her mother.

      See Harleian 1487.

Shown as daughter of John Mowbray and Aline de Broase in a chart in Paget, but not discussed in text, no reference given. Also shown as daughter of John and Aline in Marilyn Roberts, The Mowbray Legacy, 2004.

However, there is also some evidence that Christiana was daughter of William Mowbray of Easby, sister of Sir John Mowbray, Judge of Common Pleas. That family is also in the database. Both of these families appear to be descended from Roger de Mowbray, d. 1188 and his wife Alice de Gand.
